Amyris oil is extracted from the wood and smaller branches of the amyris tree (Amyris balsamifera L.) of the Rutaceae family. Before appearing on the market, it takes up to a year, during which the oil acquires the required aroma and consistency. The smell is very warm, woody, sometimes sweet with cedar notes. It has a long shelf life. It may smell similar to sandalwood oil, but it is not the same product. The differences in both composition and effect are significant.

Amyris oil - properties

Amyris oil contains a compound called elemol (about 9% of the composition), which has strong repellent properties. Studies have confirmed that it repels ticks and other insects. It is a great natural alternative to ready-made products.

The oil also contains valerianol (up to 21%, the highest concentration after valerian oil), which is known for its sedative properties. It relaxes, removes stress and creates a good atmosphere. Recommended in aromatherapy, especially for people who struggle with chronic nervous tension and anxiety. There are no contraindications for using the oil in a diffuser, in a traditional aromatherapy focus or during inhalation.

The oil is widely used in the production of perfumes, medicines, cosmetics and daily hygiene products. You can easily take advantage of this fact by enriching your homemade products with a few drops of the extract - in the right concentration, it can have a mild antiseptic, tonic, astringent and skin conditioning effect.
